Migrating doesn’t just mean changing countries. For many people, it also means rebuilding a support network, facing moments of uncertainty and finding new spaces of community. In Brooks, Alberta, pastor Daniel Ramírez has spent years supporting immigrants through Ministerios Nueva Tierra. In this conversation with Nelson Vahos, he shares his experience and reflects on the role Christian faith can play in the process of starting a new life in Canada.

Daniel Ramírez is a pastor at Ministerios Nueva Tierra, a church located in Brooks, Alberta, Canada. For approximately 20 years, his pastoral and community work has involved supporting people and immigrants who arrive in Canada and go through adaptation processes.

This conversation with Nelson Vahos discusses the importance Christian faith can have for some people during the migration process, especially when they face loneliness, uncertainty, financial hardship, cultural adaptation or a lack of a support network. The testimony also documents the community work carried out through Ministerios Nueva Tierra, including spiritual support and, according to the account given in the interview, material and, in some circumstances, financial support for people in need.

This conversation is part of Migrant Voices in Canada, a journalistic series dedicated to preserving first-person testimonies from people who have lived through the Canadian migration process.

About This Series

Migrant Voices in Canada is presented as testimonial journalism and oral memory, not as migration advice. This testimony documents one person’s particular community experience, without implying that the religious experience is the same for every immigrant.
